Dal Makhani
Dal Makhani:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup whole black lentils (sabut urad dal)
- 1/4 cup kidney beans (rajma)
- 3 cups water for pressure cooking
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 cup cream
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
Instructions:
1. Rinse the lentils and kidney beans well, and soak them in water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
2. Drain the water and rinse the lentils and beans again.
3. Pressure cook the lentils and beans with 3 cups of water and a little salt for about 8-10 whistles or until they are soft and fully cooked.
4. In a separate pan, heat butter and sauté the onions until they turn golden brown.
5. Add ginger garlic paste and green chilies and sauté for a few seconds.
6. Add the tomato puree and cook for a few minutes until the oil separates from the masala.
7. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala powder, and cook for a few more minutes.
8. Add the cooked lentils and beans to the masala and mix well.
9. Add cream and salt to taste, and cook for 10-15 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice, naan, or rot,
